Sierra Leone: Africa’s New Investment Destination

That was the theme for this year’s trade and investment forum which happened  on the 16th and 17th of November. SLEIPA's Evening Dinner - The President

I was very excited to blog about this and quite frankly, I wish I had done so just when it happened because since then there’s been an Aljezeera corruption scandal about Sierra Leone investors being allegedly duped in high places and really it’s dampened my spirits a bit. I mean its bad PR for Sierra Leone.

Anyway, I will leave that behind and share the positives as well as the opportunities available. Oh and there are plenty for the savvy investor…. Here are some bullet points which stuck in my mind: Read the rest of this entry »

Business Bomba 2 Underway & See The Successes Of The Previous Winners

After the success of the first Business Bomba Business Plan Competiion, the second edition is now underway with business plan application date closing yesterday 14th of January, 2011. A short list of 60 business plans will be made out of the total of more than 400 applications so far for intense training and finally the deserving winners will be selected. Winner will walk away with Le100million leones (about $25,000) which is not bad at all!

The first Business Bomba, helped a great deal and at the here are pictures of some of the products currently on the market by 3 of the Top 20 prize winners.

Moringa Tea

I’ve tasted it and it’s similar to Green Tea. Tastes better without milk. and oh I add honey from another Business Bomba winner

Organic Honey

This is my favourite of all! This honey doesn’t cake in the fridge as most of the imported others you get at the super market  If you are a wholesaler/retailer and you fancy pure organic honey, just send me a note and I’ll get back to you. This product is pure Salone joy!

Dr Eammons Pineapple Juice

Contains about 6% alcohol. Having tasted it, it’s not bad at all. The labelling can be better but this is a Sierra Leone product worth exporting!

Dr Eamonns Drink Dr Eamonns Rum Refresher

There are at least 3 more products- like cattle farming, cocoa plantation and cassava factory – that I know about which the respective owners have developed and are very promising…

Update

Recently bought home-made sierra leone chocolate…hmmm things are happening….. will bring you more info on that one.

Celebrating Sierra Leone Talent At The Poetry Night

Again this happened yesterday! We had a blast at the poetry night in Old School Friday night. I wrote about it some months ago here and I missed it a couple of times but last night’s was great! (although I forgot my camera  )

Generally, people read poems they’ve written by themselves and some sing and showcase any musical talent they’ve got.
